WARRINGTON Wolves suffered golden-point heartbreak in their crunch play-off clash with Salford Red Devils on Sunday afternoon
Sam Stone scored a breakaway try in the first period of extra time to earn a critical win for the Red Devils after the game had finished 20-20 after 80 pulsating minutes.
The result means both sides are now level on 26 points with two rounds of Super League's regular season remaining, with Warrington ahead of Salford in the final play-off spot on points difference.
George Williams’ late try looked to have won it for Wire after he put them 20-18 ahead with 10 minutes remaining, but Marc Sneyd’s penalty goal with four minutes left ensured the scores finished level.
Stefan Ratchford had earlier kicked the visitors ahead with his own penalty after Brodie Croft's second try swung the game the Red Devils' way.
Salford had led at half time after tries from Croft and Ben Hellewell had cancelled out Matty Nicholson's early opener, but Ben Currie touched down early in the second half to level matters.
