WARRINGTON is said to be home to a lot of spooky entities and haunted places.

The Marquis of Granby tops the list as one of the most haunted pubs in the town and Walton Hall was once visited by the Most Haunted paranormal investigation team.

You might be aware of these local haunts and you may even have visited some of them.

However, how well do you know the ghosts that are said to haunt these locations?

Entities at these locations have been regularly spotted by several people- some of them have even been given their own nickname.

It is said that a group of Cavaliers burst into the stables one night and demanded the horses of a blacksmith called Giles Boston.

Giles met his grizzle demise when he was shot in the chest.

According to the story, he crawled for help but died before anybody noticed him.

For the last 200 years, several witnesses have reported seeing a ‘crawling man’ on the road while holding a hand to his chest.

Spring heeled Jack

In summer 1927, several homeowners reported the same strange occurrence.

They claimed to be terrorised by a tall spectral figure who would cause havoc in the town.

People said he would stare into windows and jump high over walls before quickly disappearing.

When he appeared, people claim to have heard strange squealing noises and witnesses bright flashes of light around him.

In his final alleged appearance, he leaped over Central Station and left a message on a wall which read: “When the fields are white with daises I'll return."

The White Lady is said to haunt Bewsey Old Hall.

Some people think it is the ghost of Lady Isabella Botele who was the wife of the 12th Baron, William Fitz Almeric le Botela.

However, it isn’t the White Lady you need to be concerned about at Bewsey Old Hall.

The hall is also said to be haunted by a servant who was hanged after being accused of murdering the Lord of Warrington.

The Sitting Nun
Where the ghost is said to haunt: Winwick Hall

Several people have reported seeing a ‘phantom nun’ in this building.

She has been nicknamed ‘The sitting nun’ as she is said to walk into the room and take a seat before disappearing.

The Slick Haired Man
Where the ghost is said to haunt:
A50 leading to Warrington from Knutsford

Back in 1995, a driver was travelling down the A50.

He passed a man in the road who was trying to flag him down, noting that the figure had slicked back white hair, and wore black clothing.

He continued driving for another kilometre or so, but eventually decided to turn back.

To the driver’s horror, he realised the man was now standing a couple of metres behind his car - it would have been impossible for the figure to catch up with the vehicle in such a short period of time.

The driver sped away not wanting to engage with this strange figure.
