I WAS delighted to see the announcement of improvements at four school crossings in the town with the installation of ‘wig wag signs’ with flashing warning lights.
The crossing near the Red Lion in Penketh has had warning flashers (switched on by the operatives) for as long as I can remember but sadly, and despite several reminders to the council, the unit on the in-bound carriageway has been out of action for at least two years.
Many thousands of pounds has just been spent cosmetic improvements (plants and trees) to Warrington Road so the review of signage at school crossing patrol sites was long overdue.
Not exactly safety first in my book.
