WORK to improve four school crossings in the town is set to take place over the next few weeks.

The crossing near the Red Lion in Penketh, Warrington Road in Statham, Chapel Lane in Burtonwood and Rushgreen Road in Lymm will now get 'Wig Wag signs' which include flashing warning lights to alert motorists.

Cllr Hans Mundry, executive board member for highways, transportation and public realm, said: “We are committed to ensuring road safety for everyone in the borough and after our traffic management and road safety team recently undertook a full review of the signage at school crossing patrol sites, it’s great to see action being undertaken to help protect residents.

“This scheme aims to not only improve the safety at the sites for both patrols and pedestrians but also ensures that motorists have clear, advanced warning of a patrol and the need to prepare to stop if instructed.”
