A SUSPECTED drunk driver has been released from custody.

Police are investigating following a crash in Warrington on Friday night (April 5).

Shortly after 9pm, a blue BMW collided with traffic light signals on Winwick Road outside the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

It was previously reported that two arrests were made but Cheshire Police has now confirmed that just one man, aged 43, was arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

He has since been released as investigations continue.

“At 9.10pm on Friday April 5, police were called to reports of a one-vehicle collision on Winwick Road, Warrington,” said a Cheshire Police spokesperson.

“There were no reports of any injuries.

“A 43-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

"He has since been released under investigation.”

Cheshire Special Constabulary shared details of the crash on social media on Saturday (April 6).

The post read: "Last night, our Warrington Specials attended a road traffic collision.

"DW21 managed the scene and dealt with the parties involved in the collision.

"The incident resulted in two people being arrested by officers for offences under the Road Traffic Act."
