A MAIN road in Winwick was closed after multiple horses were found running loose.

Police officers were called to the scene on Golborne Road after reports of horses having escaped and running loose on the main road at approximately 6am this morning, Monday.

Officers put road closures in place and helped in securing the horses and returning them to safety.

The ‘multiple’ horses were then passed back onto their owners.

A spokesperson from Cheshire Police said: “Shortly after 6am, police were called to reports of multiple horses running loose on Golborne Road, Winwick.

“Officers attended the scene to assist with road closures and securing the horses.

“They were passed back to their owner.”

Since the incident, Cheshire Police Rural Crime Team have released a statement on social media warning residents and the horse-riding community to 'spread the word and stay vigilant' after a spate of ‘suspicious activity’ in certain areas.
