Sweet smell of success for Sankey Bridges wax melt business

She found her passion for wax melts during the pandemic and after making products for herself she quickly realised that she could sell them and started her own business.

Here, in our latest Business of the Week feature, Carrie tells us why she only uses the best products in the business to create her wax melts and why her attention to details ensures customers return to buy more of her products.

Carrie started the business in November 2020

When did you open the business?

I opened Intensity Wax Melts on November 13, 2020.

Has it always been in the same location?

I started making wax melts in my kitchen. We have now converted the garage to a full time wax room!

Are you local to the area? Did you grow up here?

I have always lived in Warrington.

Tell me a bit about your business. What do you do? What services do you provide?

Intensity Wax Melts provides affordable, designer dupe and bespoke wax melts, home fragrances and more.

Why did you decide to open your own business?

I found my passion for wax melts during lockdown and haven’t looked back since.

What's your business background?

I am a qualified beautician and always dreamed of having a career in that industry. Unfortunately, at the age of 21, I was diagnosed with several health conditions which meant I couldn’t physically manage that trade anymore. I was brought up with a great work ethic so not working wasn’t an option for me. I set out on a mission to find a career I could work around my physical limitations.

Why this type of business?

During the pandemic, I had a home account on Instagram which is where I found my love for wax melts. I started making them for personal use and realised there was a great potential to sell them.

Were you open before/during/after the Covid-19 pandemic?

I opened during the pandemic.

How did this affect your business?

As I have no immune system, the pandemic was a difficult time. We took lots of precautions to play our part in reducing the spread.

What makes your business different to others in the same area/field? What sets your business apart from your competitors?

I have a wide range of products to suit every home and collections to cover all times of year. There’s a special ‘after dark’ range so we really do have something for everyone. We also offer custom products. Last year, I was honoured to work with the charity A Gift of A Wedding. I worked with a local mould maker to make completely personalised wedding favours for an amazing bride and groom.

I also raise awareness for both candle safety and CLP compliance as I believe everyone should have the right to know what dangers they are bringing into their homes. One thing I learnt coming into this industry is that the regulations are horrifically lacking, putting many customers and their families unknowingly at risk.

Why do loyal customers return to your business?

We have refined our products to use the best ingredients on the market with meticulous attention to detail. We also offer a great customer reward scheme, discount codes and unique collections. We accommodate all our customers and work around the clock for quick turnaround times and always go that extra mile.

What's next? What do the next few months hold for you and your business?

This year, Intensity Wax Melts is expanding our wellness collection. We will soon be releasing our summer collection in which we’ve become well known for our wax melt filled suitcases. We are always bringing fresh new scents to our ranges and look forward to continuing to make all your homes smell amazing.
