Jam Clothing: “We aim to give women confidence through their wardrobe”

Customers at Jam Clothing say it was their “go-to throughout Covid” and “it’s the best shopping experience”.

Some love how different the clothes are from high street stores and how they’re great value for money while others avidly tune in each week for the Facebook live videos which “bring sunshine every day”.

Here, in our latest Business of the Week feature, Jam Clothing owners Janine Darwin and Emma Smith tell us how the idea to open their own business came during the Covid-19 pandemic and how they’ve put 50 years’ experience in the retail business into Jam Clothing.

The business was born in the kitchen in Janine’s home. We moved to Knutsford Road in August 2022.

Are you local to the area? Did you grow up here?

We are both local to Warrington and went to Lymm High School. We’ve been friends for decades!

Tell me a bit about your business. What do you do? What services do you provide?

We are an online fashion business selling women’s clothes. Our aim is to give women confidence through their wardrobe. We don't preach or tell you what you should or shouldn't wear. We just aim to help you feel good about yourself.

We give honest style tips through our social media platforms. You can watch our Lives each week to see what is new and order via messages through Facebook or Instagram. We are also on Tiktok.

Why did you decide to open your own business?

The business was born during Covid. Together, we have more than 50 years retail and fashion experience - we love clothes and we got fed up with what was on offer locally. We wanted to share that passion with others through a business of our own.

What’s your business background?

Both of us have worked in fashion all our lives.

Why this type of business?

It works for us and our customers!

What makes your business different to others in the same area/field? What sets your business apart from your competitors?

We are honest! Our customers appreciate our honesty and know they can rely on us to tell them how it is.

Exciting times are ahead with all the summer collections to look forward to. There will be more styling from us and lots of social media interactions. We will also have more open days at our HQ in Grappenhall, where customers can come and browse the rails.
