A NUMBER of Covid-19 cases have been confirmed at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Penketh.

This comes after the news that coronavirus cases are ‘surging’ among children after schools have reopened.

Warrington Borough Council’s health team is working with the UK Health Security Agency’s Cheshire Health Protection Team to ‘investigate’ the small number of cases.

A Warrington Borough Council spokesperson said: “Parents and guardians of the children in the affected class are being asked to test their child using the system-free tests (Lateral Flow Tests).

“Parents and guardians of children in the wider school are being reminded to continue with their own regular, twice-weekly LFD testing.

“Good hygiene is the best prevention to stop further onward transmission of the virus.

“Simple steps you can take to protect you, your family and colleagues include washing your hands regularly and thoroughly and following government public health advice.

“Those who develop any COVID-19 symptoms, including a cough, fever or loss of smell or taste, should isolate immediately and get an NHS PCR test.”

Covid-19 infection rates are continuing to rise across the town, with Warrington having the 58th highest case rate in the UK.

And as of yesterday afternoon, Wednesday, Warrington Hospital had 37 coronavirus patients, including four in intensive care.
