HERE are the latest statistics on the number of coronavirus cases in Warrington.

In the week before October 9, the most recent period for which data is available, a total of 1135 new Covid-19 cases were recorded in the town.

This equates to 542.0 infections for every 100,000 residents, the 58th highest case rate in the UK.

By comparison, in the seven days leading up to October 2 there were 836 transmissions detected in the borough – or 399.2 per 100,000.

Warrington was one of 295 local authority areas across the country which experienced a rise in cases between these two dates, while 81 saw a fall and one was unchanged.

Trafford has the highest infection rate in the UK with 844.4 per 100,000, followed by Wellingborough in the East Midlands with 797.9 per 100,000 and Barrow-in-Furness with 779.3 per 100,000.

As of yesterday afternoon, Wednesday, Warrington Hospital had 37 coronavirus patients, including four in intensive care.

Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s Covid-19 death toll stands at 530.

Since the start of the pandemic, 2,369 inpatients have been discharged from the Lovely Lane site after receiving treatment for the virus.
