A NATIONAL convenience store chain has confirmed its takeover of a shop in Warrington.
The Co-op store on Padgate Lane is now operating under the Nisa brand after being sold to an independent operator.
Nisa does not own any stores itself, as the businesses are owned and operated by independent retailers.
They choose to join the brand for advantages such as group buying, distribution and other support services.
A Nisa spokesman said: “Nisa is pleased to be able to support this store development, and we look forward to working with the retailer to help them in providing a valuable service to the local community.
“The store is now open and trading, and a new Nisa fascia will soon be added to complete this impressive development.”
Meanwhile, a spokesman for Co-op confirmed that the store closure is not connected to the planned opening of a brand-new store on Knutsford Road later this year.
They said: “The Co-op is moving forward with a clear purpose and momentum, and while this often involves opening new stores, we also regularly review our existing sites.
“The decision to sell any store is never taken lightly, and only after careful consideration has our Padgate Lane store been sold.
“Our priority has been to fully support colleagues, ensuring they all found alternative positions at Co-op or transferred to the new operator.
“We would like to thank the community for its support of this store over the years.”
Staff will make the short move from the store’s current location only metres away, with the new premises set to be almost double in size.
