A NEW convenience store currently under construction in Latchford will run entirely on renewable electricity.
Popular chain Co-op has confirmed it will move into the new unit on Knutsford Road this summer once building work is complete.
Staff will make the short move from the store’s current location only metres away, with the new premises set to be almost double in size.
This will provide a better shopping experience for the community, Co-op management say.
“We are delighted to have the opportunity to invest in Latchford to develop a purpose-built, larger, new store to better serve the community,” said area manager Paul Willcox.
“Co-op is committed to connecting communities and operating at the heart of local life.
“We are looking forward to having a great new store and to developing the range, choice, products and services locally that will create a really compelling offer locally.”
The move comes following a near £550,000 investment by the convenience retailer, which will enable the new store to run on 100 per cent renewable electricity.
It will offer an increased focus on fresh and healthy produce, ready meals and pizzas, award-winning wines, free-from and vegan products, Fairtrade, food-to-go and everyday essentials.
This is in addition to enhanced back of shop warehousing and refrigeration to further improve choice, range and availability for shoppers locally.
Co-op provides a funding boost locally and saves shoppers money through its re-launched membership scheme.
In addition to unlocking in-store offers, Members are rewarded with 2p for every pound they spend on Co-op branded products added to their own personal membership account balance.
The Co-op also donates the same amount to community causes.
Students in Latchford who are TOTUM cardholders – the new name for NUS extra – can pocket a 10 per cent discount off groceries.
