THE number of new coronavirus cases being recorded in Warrington over the space of a week is at its lowest level since August last year.

During the seven days up to April 4, which is the most recent period for which Public Health England data is available, 60 infections were identified in the town.

This demonstrates an infection rate of 28.6 cases per every 100,000 residents, which is the 124th highest in England.

Comparatively, the previous week up to March 28 saw 108 new cases recorded at a rate of 51.4.

Data for the most recent four days (April 5-8) has been excluded as it is incomplete and does not reflect the true number of cases.

Of the 315 local areas in England, 17 (5 per cent) have seen a rise in case rates, while 295 (94 per cent) have seen a fall and three are unchanged.
