Episode 4 of an amazing new series featuring a Warrington family's previously unpublished cine film footage of Wire matches in the 1960s and 1970s

THIS latest clip shows the Wire players parading the Captain Morgan Trophy at Wilderspool Stadium.

And it is very topical, with Warrington Guardian having this week launched an appeal to locate the whereabouts of this piece of silverware.

Warrington defeated Featherstone Rovers 4-0 in the final at The Willows, Salford, on January 26, 1974. It was the first and only time the competition was contested.

And Mike Waller, who along with his dad Cecil recorded some Wire action of the 1960s and 1970s on cine film and is now sharing their collection by publishing on the Warrington Guardian website, recalls the trophy being paraded to fans at the next home game after the final.

That means this footage was taken prior to Warrington's 34-4 home win against Huddersfield on February 3, 1974.

Prominent in the clip are players like Mike Philbin (shirt No2), John Bevan (5), Parry Gordon (7), Dave Chisnall (8), Kevin Ashcroft (at the front of the parade), Mike Nicholas (far right of the parade), Dave Wright (11) and Bobby Wanbon (15).

During the coronavirus pandemic lockdown, fans have become growingly nostalgic and reflecting on some of the happier times the club have enjoyed. And this is why the missing trophy has come into prominence.
