MANY tragic murders have taken place in Warrington.

While some criminals are brought to justice, other crimes go unsolved for years - some might not ever reach a conclusion.

From the heartbreaking death of baby Callum, to the mystery phone call which is linked to the brutal murder of a Widnes mother, here are three unsolved murder cases that took place in Warrington.

Veronica Anderson

On25th August 1991, Veronica ‘Vera’ Anderson’ was found dead in her car on Tannery Lane in Penketh.

Police discovered that her throat had been cut and that Veronica had bled to death.

However, there is lot of mystery surrounding how and why she died.

Investigators found that she had take a phone call on the night of her death.

Shortly after the call (at around 10.10pm), she left her seven-year-old son with a neighbour and drove away from her Hadfield Close home.

She was found dead just five hours later.

To this day, police have never identified the mysterious caller and also haven’t found the owner of the blood stained glove which was left at the scene.

Witnesses reported seeing a couple in the Crown and Cushion pub on Warrington Road- the woman matched Veronica’s description.

The case ran cold until 1999 when police received an anonymous letter which claimed to know who Vera was going to meet on the night of her death.

Despite this, no new leads or suspects were uncovered and her death remains a mystery.

However, earlier this year police renewed the appeal and asked anyone with information to come forward.

Hopeful Vera's killer will be caught soon.

Tim Parry and Johnathan Ball

The Warrington bombing is a tragic part of the town’s history that will never be forgotten.

On March 20, 1993 two bombs were detonated on Bridge Street that claimed the lives of two children.

Johnathan Ball, 3, dies when the bombs were detonated and Tim Parry, 12, passed away five days later.

The IRA (Irish Republican Party) were behind the bombings- but no-one has been arrested or charged for the murders.

However, the parents of Tim insist that they have no desire to find out who was responsible for the bomb attack as they don’t want to re-open old wounds.

Baby Callum

This tragic mystery involves the death of a newborn baby who was abandoned in the woods.

The infant, named Callum by the police, was discovered in 1998 by a dog walker.

The baby’s body was found wrapped in a black plastic bin bag and abandoned in Callands near Gulliver’s World.

More than 20 years later, his true identity and the person behind his death is a mystery.

Officers carried out DNA tests on nearly 500 women during their investigation, including many of the town’s school girls after leads suggested the mother was a teenager.

Several calls were also made to a hot-line number from a woman who claimed to be the child’s biological mother.

She was emotional on the phone and spoke to officers anonymously several times, but she was never traced.

The child was laid to rest at Manchester Road Cemetery with a headstone that read “Baby Callum - Precious Child Of God. Laid To Rest 27 July 1998. With Love From The People Of Warrington.”
