TWENTY nine years after a mum-of-two from Widnes was found dead in Warrington, police are yet to find her killer.

Veronica Anderson, known as Vera, left her home in Hadfield Close at 10.10pm on Saturday, August 24, 1991.

Just hours later, shortly after 3am on Sunday, August 25, the 42-year-old was found dead in her Ford Cortina car off Tannery Lane in Penketh.

Despite extensive and exhaustive enquiries over the years, no-one has ever been convicted in connection with her death.

Now, officers are again appealing for anyone who has any information to come forward.

Detective inspector Adam Waller said: "Vera’s family were left heartbroken by her death and have had to live with what happened over the past 29 years.

"Someone out there must know something about what happened that day.

"I appreciate that it is a long time ago but I am sure that if you witnessed something you would still remember this now.

"Anyone with any information is urged to come forward – even the smallest detail can be crucial."

Vera had dashed out of her home 29 years ago after receiving a mystery phone call.

The caller has never been identified.

Leaving the TV on and her purse at home, she left her seven-year-old son, Neil, with a neighbour, saying she would only be 10 minutes.

Five hours later she was found dead.

It was later revealed that she had been strangled and her throat slashed.

There were no signs of a robbery or sexual assault.

The last sighting was of her talking to a man in the Crown and Cushion pub in Penketh earlier that night, who has never been traced.
