Ban the town’s charity bandits

I AM pleased to hear Glasgow is cracking down on charity bandits and think it’s about time Warrington Borough Council did the same.

I’m put off shopping in town by the direct-debit-hunting-charity-mercenaries. I’m forced to run up Bridge Street to the safety of the mall.

Never make eye contact with them as then they’ve got you.

I’m thinking about starting an anti-chugger Facebook group called ‘beware the dangers of charity muggers’.

Our town centre is in the grip of these pests and it gives charities a bad name. I’m not against giving money to charity.

No one likes a good cause more than me but there has to be better ways than offending people.

Just say no! It's quite easy.

very true i have a few DD but they are ones i have chosen to do for my own reasons. but every time (it feels) i go to town there are people with clipboards asking for your card details. charities need money totally agree. but this kind of head on asking for money is very impolite. it puts people off regardless of the needing cause.

I have been in the cockhedge centre on a number of occassion when there have been people collecting for Help for Heroes. This is a charity that I fully respect and have contributed to since it was first formed. BUT...the collectors there insist on standing infront of people's path, almost demanding money from people and then shotuing comments like "they get hurt protecting you" when you politely say no. I have nothing against charity collectors (infact I have done it myself) but on one occassion I actually contacted the centres management to complain about their tactics, to be told "we'll have a word, they have been told the rules" (In fact from my days of charity collecting, such actions are actually "illegal").
