I REFER to the ongoing arguments over the proposed change of fire cover at Birchwood Fire Station.
Can I point out that we in the south of Warrington have been experiencing this type of fire cover at night time for as long as I can remember.
The night shift has always been covered by on-call firemen operating from Stockton Heath fire station when it was located on London Road and now on Ackers Road.
That too has to provide cover for two of the motorways in the south of Warrington, the M6 and the M56.
I cannot recall any fatalities being due to the poor response of the fire service in south Warrington.
In these hard economic times with pressure on public expenditure, services have to be restructured.
