HERE we go again, the pot calling the kettle black. I am referring to your article stating Bank Park bowling green should be the jewel in the crown, but it is a disgrace.
Myself and the late Eric Ashton were the youngest bowlers in Warrington playing for the Bank Park team, when bowling was considered an ‘old man’s game’.
For some time now I, along with many other bowlers, have been complaining about the condition of all the parks’ bowling greens. Bowling greens are not lawns. I would ask the council to visit any of the club greens, where it is a pleasure to play, not where you are likely to need a hernia operation after coming off.
Some time ago I was invited as a volunteer, along with Warrington council workers, to attend a conference in Manchester. Government ministers and other organisations had arranged a presentation about funding for parks and green spaces. The Government wanted to see more paddling pools, bandstands and flower beds in our parks. They made available £500 million for this use.
Did anybody bother to put pen to paper? Or did the Warrington hierarchy, as usual, once again miss the boat?
