I am 85-years-old. I recently attended a reunion at Peterborough, the occasion being the 60th anniversary of the Berlin Airlift in which I was involved.
After a memorable weekend I returned on Monday on the 10.30am train bound for Warrington.
The train was on time, clean and drinks and snacks were available.
Well done.
On arrival at Warrington Central Station I was about to descend the steps with a heavy suitcase when a young man came to help saying to me ‘I will carry that for you, sir’ I think perhaps my white hair and my blazer badge helped me.
This young man helped me to the taxi rank and a cabbie loaded my case and when he spotted my badge he asked ‘what is the significance of your badge?’. I explained during the journey and on arrival he handed me the case and I asked what the fare was. He replied ‘Nothing to you, sir, as an ex- serviceman’.
I knew then that chivalry and appreciation of the elderly was not dead in Warrington.
You know who you are, many thanks, J WESTON Warrington
