I WAS horrified to discover that for this year’s Walking Day there will be no traffic management to allow Sacred Heart, St Barnabas and St James’ churches to walk the short distance from Sacred Heart Church on Liverpool Road to Bank Park.

We are expected to make our way to the park as individuals, which is not in keeping with the purpose of Walking Day as it is the day when Christians in the town walk together as a witness to Christ.

Cost has been given as the reason for no traffic management but how much can it cost for such a short distance to be managed safely?

At a recent meeting I attended at the Town Hall regarding Walking Day, it was suggested by a council staff member that children each pay £1 out of their Walking Day money to help with the cost.

I assume other civic functions which require traffic management will still be allowed to go ahead as normal.

I sincerely hope the council will see the error of its ways and reinstate the traffic management needed, particularly for the safety of the many schoolchildren who take part and allow this special day in Warrington to go ahead safely.
