THERE are both negatives and positives about how Warrington town centre will turn out after the local plan is completed.

It would not be wise for Warrington Borough Council to give planning permission in advance to any developers ahead of the local plan being complete.

It is unfortunate that it has not yet been published.

Allowing undue pressure from pushy developers to get the best sites would result in haphazard and piecemeal agreements (Warrington Guardian, April 26).

The main thing to keep in mind is that the town centre development is for all of the people of Warrington, adults, children, young people, the disabled and the elderly.

My view is that there should be quiet areas/squares, where people can sit in the sun and watch the world go by.

Office and official buildings should be located centrally so that they are accessible to all.

I think the skating or roller rink would be better away from St Mary’s Church and the placement of housing is an important consideration.

I hope due consideration will be given to retaining the character of the older parts of the town centre.

The location of all types of housing should be carefully thought out, not just high rise flats but small communities.

The older properties in the town centre are still a very good part of the street scene.

One final thought is that it would also be nice to honour the hard work of Warrington women working on munitions at Risley during the Second World War.

Perhaps something could be done to acknowledge this work.

At the time there were not enough trained engineers available to do this work.

They were away at the war.

The women filled these roles and it is possible the outcome of the war could have been very different without them.

They deserve our respect.
