I HAVE come home from a work trip to find my council tax bill for 2018- 19.

I am about to be charged an increase of 6.1 per cent despite the fact that:

  •  I now have to pay an additional sum for my green bin to be picked up
  • We don’t get the grass on the road verges cut anymore – it is a disgrace and we have to do it ourselves
  • Inflation is less than half the rate of the increase
  • Our road and those around me are full of potholes, the pavements and surrounding areas are uneven, covered in wet slippy moss in areas, a danger to people walking on them
  • Grass verges are churned and muddy, with no care or repair from the council.

I would appreciate an explanation as to why the council thinks it is reasonable to put up an already extortionate bill by more than six per cent in this time of austerity and low inflation on wages, etc.

Our area pays the highest rates of council tax and gets the worst service.
