IT is hard not to feel pretty sad when you look at the state of education these days.
We have free schools and high schools in a rather desperate struggle for pupils in order to secure funding to keep jobs and courses running.
But the absolute zenith of despair was reached this week with Great Sankey High School and its move to academy status (Warrington Guardian online, November 10).
Two primary schools have pulled out, this after it was forced to give up its commitment that schools which joined its giant academy umbrella would be guaranteed places for its pupils.
All in the same month its Ofsted rating dropped – blamed bizarrely on the council and LiveWire for a leisure centre project the school is paying nothing towards.
It is a sad state of affairs when schools are forced to act like businesses and ultimately, pupils will pay the price.
