AT the time of their implementation I expressed grave concerns over the value of the 20mph limits.
It appears now that Warrington Borough Council has also expressed concerns (Warrington Guardian, March 16) over their value and the fact that more than £640,000 has been spent on this unenforceable waste of public money.
Manchester City Council has also halted the spread to more areas of Manchester for the same reasons.
Their estimated costs were £1.7 million.
That money could have been better spent on social care, libraries and making the roads safer by getting to grips with repairs.
In Manchester it was recorded that the 20mph roads that were initially regulated saw a reduction of only 0.7 mph and not effective enough to roll out any further 20 limits.
So we have effectively wasted more than £640,000 on unnecessary road furniture.
