I WROTE a letter to the Warrington Guardian quite some time ago about Greenwood Crescent being overgrown with weed and the shops having what looked like gardens growing out of the gutters.

Within 14 days the council had been with gangs of workmen clearing up the place, thanks to the Guardian.

Recently I wrote another letter about scaffolding standing idle with what appeared to be no personnel on them (Warrington Guardian, December 8) on at least 10 sites on Poplars Avenue.

On driving down the said avenue on Friday, December 16, behold a magic wand, not one piece of scaffold in site.

Hence the saying closing the gates when the cattle has gone.
