WHILE it is the season to be jolly, I was wondering if the Labour parish councillor and Warrington Young Labour chairman Josh Booth had any plans to instigate a second ‘welcoming party’ for the man who gave them hope – Jeremy Corbyn.
Only this time will he be celebrating the new Labour leader’s decision to hire a former Sinn Fein member of staff to join his office in the new year?
Jayne Fisher, previously head of Sinn Fein’s London office, has been appointed as head of ‘stakeholder engagement’.
Announcing the news to MPs, Corbyn is said to have described her as ‘very lovely’.
A view that doesn’t cut it with many MPs and for that matter no doubt, most Warringtonians.
Many Labour MPs are worried the move will remind voters of Corbyn’s history of support for Sinn Fein and in turn damage Labour’s image – Sinn Fein being the political wing of the IRA which bombed Warrington twice in 1993 killing two little boys and maiming others.
Some Labour supporters will no doubt as usual be responding to this letter and as usual will be denying and saying it is all lies about Corbyn’s attachment and support for Sinn Fein and the IRA.
As councillor Mr Booth has said: “What’s not to love about Jeremy ?”
Most Warringtonians may well be thinking what is to love about Jeremy Corbyn?
