I AM getting rather sick of the north/south divide arguments from various contributors.

One particularly fine example was from Derek Action (Warrington Guardian, October 13).

His argument was that a Guardian columnist should be less Torybashing (which is bizarre in itself given his rather regular council diatribes) and that the north of the town was favoured over the south when it came to investment.

Well Mr Acton why do you think that might be?

On a national level, and indeed in south Warrington, people voted for a Tory Government. They had a taste of austerity and voted for more of it.

And that is fine, we live in a democracy. Yet people then complain when they get the results.

Libraries being cut in the south of the town and no investment in its leisure centres or roads.

The council has to prioritise because its budget is being slashed.

So it decides to protect its most vulnerable. Just as the Tories won their argument nationally, locally people voted in their droves for a Labour council. Forty-five of the 58 councillors are Labour.

So don’t be surprised that they decide to protect the most vulnerable.

Not biased, just politics.
