I AM trying to trace the family of A Jowett who I believe was born in Warrington around 1918.

I believe he was a schoolfriend or possibly related to my late father John Peers who was born in Roome Street in Warrington in 1918.

My father was stationed in Chester le Street in County Durham at the outbreak of the Second World War.

He met my mother here and remained here for the rest of his life.

I became interested in discovering more about my father’s family a year or two ago.

The A Jowett I am trying to trace was a keen schoolboy footballer and played in the Daily Dispatch Schoolboys Football competition of 1930 to 1931.

I am presuming he represented Warrington schools and seem to remember my father saying the final was played in Liverpool, I think at Goodison Park.

As I began my genealogy search I discovered my grandfather Frank Peers is shown on his marriage certificate as living in Warrington and his occupation is listed as a printer.

My grandmother Margaret Peers (nee Boyle) is listed on the 1911 census as a forewoman printer and on the same census her father John Boyle is listed as a pattern maker (I think that the word engraving precedes pattern maker on the census but it is difficult to read) and I believe this is also linked to the printing industry of the time.

I have obtained a copy of my grandparents’ marriage certificate and this shows the witnesses as Arthur Jowett (possibly the father of the A Jowett I am trying to trace) and Minnie Boyle who I believe was my grandmother’s sister.

The wedding took place at St.

Peter’s. I’m hoping a relative of A Jowett may be able to get in touch to help me piece together this piece of history. Email cliffpeers@aol.co.uk.
