WELL done Warrington Borough Council for doing a great job on both sides of the Cantilever Bridge but what happened to the ‘bit in the middle’?

The actual roadway over the Cantilever is full of pot holes and temporary ‘fillings’.

However I suspect this part of the bridge is the responsibility of Peel Ports which might explain why it has not been resurfaced.

Peel Ports is one of the largest companies in the UK with a very diverse portfolio which, of course, includes the Manchester Ship Canal and its bridges.

Despite this it is always pleading poverty and claiming it is unable to paint the swing bridges.

These bridges are part of our heritage and you would think the owners would want to keep them looking pristine especially for people who do not live in the area, maybe visiting or those who take a pleasure cruise on the canal.

Also the control room at Latchford is a disgusting site.

Let’s shame them into painting these bridges plus, of course, re-surfacing the Cantilever Bridge and any others that they own.
