IT was typical of Helen Jones, who voted to remain in the EU, to try to score political points by blaming the lack of trade negotiators as ‘the result of stringent Government cuts to the civil service’ (Warrington Guardian July 14).

Because she was on the losing side of the referendum she goes on to tell everyone who voted Brexit why what they did was wrong and how we were all duped.

The reason we have very few negotiators is nothing to do with this Government’s cuts but all to do with the fact all UK governments have spent more than four decades out-sourcing powers to Brussels to negotiate trade deals instead of doing them ourselves.

Her ‘spin’ again surfaced on the Leave posters saying ‘let’s give our NHS the £350 million the EU takes every week’.

She says Ian Duncan Smith and others ‘have already backtracked on this pledge’.

The exact words on the red bus were ‘we send the EU £350 million a week, let’s fund our NHS instead.

Vote Leave, let’s take back control’.

Those exact words conveyed a clear message to the people of this country that we (meaning the UK government of the day) could if it wished to give it all to the NHS or if it wished give 50 per cent to the NHS and the other 50 per cent to reducing the deficit further.

Without the spin from the ‘Remainers’ the inference was clear.

First and foremost there will be, now we are coming out, £350 million per week for whoever is in power to spend each year on how our elected government of the day wishes it to be spent.

Most of us Warringtonians who were the ones who voted Leave think that is great news even if Mrs Jones thinks otherwise.
