WELL Cllr Marks, I have a few points to address in your Guardian letter (June 30).

Firstly you congratulate the 46 per cent that voted to stay in the European Union.

May I take this opportunity to congratulate the 54 per cent that voted to opt out.

I quote you on something in your letter, ‘is it right that a third of the country should have made such a momentous decision? I believe the old have let down the young’.

Well Mr Marks, if 64 per cent of 18 to 24-year-olds can’t even be bothered to go to the polling booth and the Warrington turnout was 73.4 per cent, then how on earth can you blame the ‘old?’ When referring to the old do you mean someone like myself who at the grand old age of 44 didn’t get a say in whether or not we should have joined the European union in the first place?

Democracy is at the forefront of Britain and what she stands for, and the result is exactly what the people of Britain have called for.

So rather than bleating on about the misguided view of the 62,487 Warringtonians who voted to leave, we (as you rightly said) must pull together and act as the majority wishes to make this country of ours great again.

Onwards and upwards Mr Marks.

PAUL HUTCHINSON Padgate
