THIS is the first letter that I have written to the Warrington Guardian but have felt moved to do so after hearing that Cllr Paul Bretherton has been thrown out by the Labour party to make way for an employee of the local MP.

Paul has consistently received our vote because he has consistently worked hard in the community and for the community.

We only voted him back in last year and it has always been the easiest decision to make at the ballot box.

Today I received a leaflet through the door informing me about ‘our local Labour team’ in Woolston.

I had to do a double take as there was only one recognisable face on it.

One extremely young looking candidate, who we never heard of or ever set eyes on before, tells us that he enjoys watching rugby and playing football locally.

Oh brilliant. I did a further double take to make sure the date on the leaflet was not April 1.

I’m sorry but I want a lot more than that in a local councillor.

Paul has been very helpful when we have had issues in the past and I know that he has been a great help to a number of people locally, with lots of issues that the public don’t always see or appreciate.

But we can all see one big shining example of what he helped to deliver. The Woolston hub. Need I say more?

A school boy error from the Labour party in more ways than one with this.

Labour – you have just lost my vote that I think you were taking for granted in Woolston.
