OH dear, another letter in the Warrington Guardian with someone taking a firm hold of the wrong end of a stick!

Tony Allan, not a resident of the ward I think, says he can’t believe the cost of the new neighbourhood hub for Bewsey and Dallam.

That’s because it’s not true – it’s £1.5 million not £11.5 million.

In case he thinks that’s still too much, for community provision in one of the most deprived areas of town, it’s not even true that ‘most people have cars and free bus passes’. They don’t.

As he wants to make it a party political issue, I can also tell him that this is not ‘a time of austerity’ – when the country is more wealthy than ever, with most of the wealth going to the rich, it is just a Tory attack on the poor and vulnerable.

Labour is committed to making a difference and if the new hub makes even a small difference to health and life expectancy in the ward it will be worthwhile.

In the long run it might even save him money as a ‘ratepayer’ with less pressure on health services.
