IN response to Tony Fox (Warrington Guardian, December 3).

I can assure him that the voting figures from the General Election are publicly available.

My intention to stand for Labour for the borough council in Appleton ward flows from my desire to take Labour’s positive message to every corner of Warrington South and to win over people who have previously voted Conservative or Lib Dem.

In recent years, under my leadership, Labour has won local elections in Lymm, Grappenhall and Stockton Heath.

We aim to do the same in Appleton on May 5, 2016.

I’m proud that Labour has recently forced the Conservative Government to do a spectacular u-turn on two big issues that concern Warrington people: First, the threat of major further cuts to police funding.

Second, cuts to tax credits for people who work but don’t earn enough to live on.

Effective Labour opposition forced Cameron and Osborne to think again.

I’m also proud of the track record of our Labour council in Warrington, which is pro-business, pro-investment and highly innovative in how it redesigns local public services.

All in the face of massive cuts to its budget, imposed by Tory ministers in Whitehall.

As I’ve said before, if Tony wants to ask me questions he can always meet me for a coffee at Esquires in Stockton Heath. I find it’s always best to talk in person.

Finally, I would like to wish all Warrington Guardian readers and staff a Merry Christmas and a peaceful and prosperous 2016.
