ABOUT 18 months ago I went to Westbrook Medical Centre for a blood pressure test.

I did not make an appointment as I knew the nurse would see me within half an hour, which she did.

She has seen me several times in the past few years without an appointment as a blood pressure test takes about one minute.

I was due for one a month ago and I decided to ring the receptionist with a view to having a test the next day.

I was told that I would have to wait at least 10 days to see her.

As you can imagine I was shocked at this so I decided to go to the centre in person and ask to see the nurse as soon as possible.

The receptionist informed me that there was no chance at that time and I was given the impression that it would be at least two weeks to wait for a 60-second test.

What on earth has happened to the NHS in the past 18 months?

I blame successive Conservative governments and the people who run the NHS.

They are responsible and should be held accountable for this disgraceful situation.

The Labour politician Anuerin Bevan, who was the architect of the NHS, must be turning in his grave at the shocking demise.

Heads should roll but they will not of course.
