I WONDER how many people nearing retiring age will be dismayed when they realise that they will not be receiving the Government’s widely publicised pension allowance of £155 per week?
It all revolves around if at any time in their working life they’ve ‘opted-out’ of SERPS (the second state pension) – for any period of time – even if subsequently reversing that action and ‘opting-in’ again.
For the DWP is recalculating everyone’s SERPS pension on the basis that they never opted back in.
In effect confiscating all their SERPS contributions.
I wonder if David Cameron would have been re-elected if he had made this known during the last election.
(But of course they never do, do they).
