I CANNOT see how the new idea of having all police officers and CSOs starting and ending their shifts in the town centre is more efficient.

While police officers have cars to go back to their area, originally CSOs had to rely on a lift from the officers or on public transport to go back to their station to collect a cycle and then deploy to the area.

They have now been told they can use cars. However in practice they are not always available, so back to plan A – the bus.

This must and does result in less hours actually policing the area.

Another problem is car parking as there is not enough space close to the police station. The town is congested enough without the extra trips to and fro each day.

John Dwyer in his video says this will result in more efficient meetings thus resulting in better supervision and organisation of duties.

Maybe it will but the amount of time lost on the beat in the community is reduced and surely visibility on the patch is a vital element in the job.

I realise savings have to be made, he has said previously there are no plans to close the outlying stations this year, but that could be the next step if the new plan is deemed successful.

A substantial amount of money was recently spent moving premises at Sankey and now it is virtually empty, was this money well spent?
