IT is great news for Warrington that Labour’s Nick Bent has secured a pledge from Ed Miliband for a formal review of the road tolls on the Mersey Bridges, if Labour is in Government after the General Election.

Of the three main parties there is only one party that is publicly committed to a review of the road tolls for Warrington and that is Labour.

The Tory-LibDem Coalition Government has totally refused to listen to Warrington and has refused to carry out a review.

The sitting Tory MP here has moved away to Macclesfield and he has not even bothered to raise this important issue in the House of Commons for over two years.

So at the moment it is only the prospect of a Labour Government that offers any hope that the tolls might be scrapped.

Personally I think that is well worth voting for.

Nick Bent has already shown he can get things done for Warrington and he has played a key role in local campaigns to save Walton Hall from being sold off; to shut Arpley Landfill; to win funding for the Peace Centre; and now we have a big step forward on the road tolls.

Nick lives in Great Sankey and he would make a great MP for Warrington South.

But we still need to keep the pressure up on David Cameron and Guardian readers can sign the public petition here warringtonsouth.org/stopthetoll.
