IN response to Ann O’Neill’s letter (Warrington Guardian, March 12), the swan that she helped after it was hit by a car was collected and brought into the care of the RSPCA at our Stapeley Grange Wildlife Centre.

We are sorry to report that, despite being given pain relief and the best of care, the swan sadly died later that night.

We would urge those people like Ms O’Neill who clearly care for animals to contact the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999 if they spot an animal that is sick, injured or in distress.

This is a 24-hour helpline and you will be able to speak to someone to report an animal in distress rather than being asked to leave a message.

We would also join Ms O’Neill in urging motorists to be vigilant and take as much care as possible where wild animals and birds are near roads.
