I AM writing in response to two comments in the Warrington Guardian.
Firstly to the comment of Helen Jones MP about the need to talk about mental health.
We really do need to be talking about what is going wrong with our mental health system.
My own experience of supporting my daughter through mental health services in the town has highlighted to me the fears caused by a ‘Cinderella’ service.
Secondly to the comments of Dr Sandeep Ranote raising concerns about the levels of self-harm in Warrington.
The literature tells me that serious mental illness often presents a lot of self-harming behaviours which I was told, by a local psychiatrist, can be a form of ‘self-medication’.
Self-harming behaviours in Warrington are an indication of how poor the mental health service provision really is in our town.
How can we let this go on in the 21st century?
