A WORK colleague and I were standing outside the bus station near the Hop Pole.

When a gentleman fell over near the taxi rank in front of people walking by, no-one stopped to help him.

We went to help this person with the help of a kind woman to perform CPR on him but we were too late and the gentleman passed away.

While we were attending to him, we asked the security if they had a defibrillator machine which, in my view, could have saved this man’s life. We were told there was no machine which I think is disgusting.

Can someone explain why in a busy council-owned bus station, with hundreds of pensioners passing through it every day, there is no qualified first-aider and defibrillator machine available to help treat people in the vital minutes while waiting for the overstretched paramedics to arrive.

The council, yet again, seem to have their priorities wrong. The roof of the bus station has been leaking since the first day of opening and what do they do?

That’s right – put buckets and cones out. I want the council to address these issues.
