IT is not often the Warrington Wolves let their fans down, but the fiasco with the festive friendly against Widnes has left a bitter taste.

The cold weather was forecast, as was snow, and yet the club didn’t think of covering the pitch.

Either that or they don’t have pitch covers, which for a top Super League club is a mystery.

We had friends coming down who had tickets for the game and accommodation which could have been cancelled with 24 hours’ notice. Yet the club only called off the game at 9am on the day of the match.

Worst of all, the game was rearranged for Wednesday when fans were back at work and the crowd far less.

For all the good work Mr Gatcliffe has done at the club his treatment of the fans has been his weakness.

No wonder we are seeing season ticket sales drop, apparently, although no word from the club?

And the tickets for the World Club Challenge are far more expensive than a Super League game, which is basically a friendly versus a midtable NRL team.

If we are to keep the fans coming and attract more newcomers to the club we need to consider the fans more.

Better marketing is needed and a whole matchday experience review is required.

I hope that the club are taking notice, we are in danger of turning fans away in droves.
