ON September 21, I was on my way to Christ Church on Wash Lane, Latchford, by car. As I approached the back of the Cheshire Cheese pub I found that Knutsford Road was coned off.

I stopped and spoke to a police officer woman and asked if I could proceed to the car park next to the computer shop.

I informed her that I was disabled and I was displaying my blue badge and was told to find a parking place on a side street and walk as there was 2,000 people involved in a half-marathon. Lucky people.

After turning into Grange Avenue, which was a car park, I turned round and went back onto Knutsford Road and went into the Ball Park car park.

I parked my car and struggled out, got my wife out of the car, she had a knee replacement and is suffering with a trapped nerve.

I walked to the main road to find that the council was removing the cones and were allowing traffic to pass.

I was not too pleased, unlocked my car, got my wife into the car and drove to the corner of Wash Lane and parked up.

I find it puzzling that people can race on our roads in a so-called fun run, cyclists can race on our roads, but yet a disabled pensioner and his wife cannot drive to church.

I believe that the reason that things were running late was because that they did not realise how many people had arrived to run.

Surely they all had to register and pay their money?

Here is a suggestion for next year, create a park and ride somewhere for all of these runners to park instead of cluttering up all of the streets.

Why do we at south of Warrington have to put up with this run cluttering up our side of the town?

Let us set the run around Orford/Longford/Padgate etc which is where the sports centres are.

CXome on Warrington, let's have compassion for the disabled instead of telling them to park in a side street and walk.
