I WAS somewhat surprised to learn of the formal objection raised by Ms Matthews in respect of the development of apartments at Orford Farm.

When being used as a ‘sex club’, Orford Farm frequently had cars lining the driveway to the property and spilling out onto School Road and parked round the corner in Povey Road and Primrose Close.

At no time did anyone ever request permission for these vehicles. Orford Farm as it stands is in a dangerous condition.

Children and teenagers frequently sneak into this derelict property and sooner or later one of them is going to be hurt. This is not something anyone wishes to happen.

With regard to Ms Matthews’s comments about a family residential area with a primary school and access being congested from 8.30am to 4pm, I would beg to differ.

School Road, Sandy Lane, Primrose Close, Fieldview Drive and Povey Road are all part of a residential area.

A residential area is a community in which people of all ages reside – not merely people with young children. In addition, there is a primary school.

The problem with parking is confined normally to between 8.30am and 9.30am and 2.30pm to 4pm in the afternoon.

These are the times when people are dropping off and picking up their children at the primary school. If Ms Matthews is concerned about parking between these hours she could perhaps appeal to her councillor or MP and get a curfew upon street parking in these areas within these hours.

I personally think one or two bedroom apartments for, say, the 55plus or 60 plus age group is a really good idea.
