I WAS amazed by Dr Michael Murphy’s suggestion that the Parr Hall (a Grade II listed building), is hideous both inside and out.

From the outside it is quite in keeping with the surrounding area and pleasant enough to look at.

The inside is not the greatest, but it is an old building with limited funds and for a local theatre it is more than passable.

Without any doubt the ugliest building in Warrington is the tall grain storage structure near the river at the start of the Old Liverpool Road, known as ‘The Pink Eye’.

Following close on its heels is the new NHS building in Bath Street.

This brick box proves that with a serious lack of imagination and effort it is possible to bypass all sense of taste and build a very ugly new building close to the elegant Town Hall and law courts.

I agree Mr Smith’s does ‘hover over the town’ a bit, but we have got far worse and knocking it down to build something else does not guarantee any sort of aesthetic improvement!
