I WONDER if any of your readers had a similarly-disappointing Walking Day experience last Saturday evening when Silcock’s abruptly abandoned its Stockton Heath Fair so early.
Having grown-up locally, I have fond memories of Stockton Heath Fair, so this year I made the effort to head back from Sheffield to take the kids there for the first time, so that they could enjoy it just as I did back in the’70s.
Imagine our dismay when, at only 7.30pm the fair had long since been cleared away, despite all the signs telling people it was on until 9pm.
Surely its only right and proper to uphold a public commitment to a 9pm finish – as it was, I’m sure plenty of people had a wasted journey, to say nothing of the disappointment of their children.
Perhaps the time has come to source a more responsible provider to run next year’s event.
