IN response to Mr and Mrs P A Short, Warrington Guardian, March 13, I can assure them that Labour councillors in Sankey and Whittle Hall are fighting vigorously to force NHS England to recommission a GP service at Barrow Hall Lane.

We have met with NHS England and it has said it is not viable to commission a service for 1,700 patients. They have not taken into account patients’ views and the fact that some of these patients are elderly or have young children, making it an impossible journey to Orford Jubilee Hub without a car.

We have written to NHS England urging them to reconsider, but it has not yet responded.

Healthwatch Warrington is also involved in representing patients’ views and there will be a meeting in April of the scrutiny committee at Warrington Borough Council where NHS England will have to explain its actions.

Hopefully we will get an interim GP until services are up and running at Great Sankey Leisure Centre which is to be a neighbourhood hub similar to the ones at Orford and Woolston.
