WITH the number of cars on our roads rising and traffic getting busier, I would have thought that the crossing patrol department, or lollipop ladies and gents as they are affectionately known would be invaluable.
Why is it then that the lovely woman who stands at the junction of Seymour Drive and Green Lane, in Padgate has been told she may lose her job because she does not cross enough children.
In actual fact she safely sees many children across the road, but only children attending junior school are counted.
My grandson and granddughter both cross with this woman as do many of their friends, but what will happen next year if she is no longer there?
This is an extremely busy road in rush hour and she is badly needed there. Will it take an accident or even a fatality for the council to reconsider? I really do hope not.
