PETER Phillips, son of HRH Princess Royal, will be the guest of honour at the 2012 Carnegie Challenge Cup Final.

The 34-year old Royal – who is eleventh in line to the throne and the grandson of the Queen – will attend the showpiece match between Leeds Rhinos and Warrington Wolves at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, kick-off 2.30pm.

Peter Phillips will be the first member of the Royal family to attend the cup final since The Duke of Edinburgh in 1995 and will be on hand to present the trophy to the winning captain.

“We are delighted that Peter Phillips is our chief guest at the Carnegie Challenge Cup Final and look forward to welcoming him to what is set to be a magnificent occasion,” said acting RFL chairman Maurice Watkins CBE.

“It’s a great honour to have a member of the Royal Family attending one of Rugby League’s biggest events and I am sure he will enjoy what promises to be a tremendous event.”
